Who is SK Gear? Well, that would be me, Yvette. I have a loving husband that supports me in all that I do. I am a BOYMOM of two (my boys were 2 years and 5 months apart). I was a stay-at-home mom until my youngest son, Cody, started middle school. That is when I went back to work part-time. I was the mom that volunteered for all school events, sport boards, and everything else in my boys’ lives. When I went back to work, I was fortunate to have a job that allowed me to be at both boys’ events. They were very active in multiple sports… and I NEVER missed a game no matter where it was played!
And in a blink of an eye, my boys were graduated, and we were now empty nesters. My husband and I had settled into our new routines of not chasing after boys, LOL… Life was good!
Then our lives changed again, forever. It was my oldest son, Jarrett’s last year of college, when we received the news that he had committed suicide. We did not know that he was struggling with depression. He was always the kind of kid that was funny, independent, self-motivated and would do anything for anyone. I talked to him almost daily, other than when he told me he had finals to study for, and I never heard a hint of depression in his conversations with me. NO ONE saw this coming. In one “down” moment my son did something he could not undo. Our community was shocked and then the realization that if it happened to our family, it could happen to any family.
After some time, I found strength to be “present” in my life through my workouts with my trainer. It has been healing for me to physically work out some of the heartache I deal with daily. I had been such an active parent in Jarrett’s life that I was having trouble being active in his death. I wanted to be alone and not be involved in outside activities other than my workouts. As time has passed by a bit, I needed to do something to honor him. Jarrett was the definition of Strength & Kindness. And SK Gear was born…
